SVERIGES INTERNATIONELLA TALANGER (SIT) WAS LAUNCHED IN APRIL 2014 AS A MEANS TO MEET PEOPLE. The founders of the group realized that in order to succeed here in Sweden- from entering the labor market to succeeding once inside it- one needed a network. How to build up this network when one was an immigrant and knew very few people was the challenge.
WE SELECTED LINKEDIN AS A PLATFORM FOR OUR COMMUNITY. Our idea was to collect other educated and motivated foreigners and put them in one central place. We would help each other with both information and support and would grow to a critical mass. With our growing numbers and reputation as a talent pool, we would hold events that could help us connect to those in the business world... Those on the "other side", who were already established and who could possibly help us join in. Because after all, our personal goals were to stay here and make Sweden our home.
WE ARE NOW A CRITICAL MASS OF 650 MEMBERS. We have held a panel discussion, several business mingles, a seminar, and have launched two mentorship programs. We also exhibited in both Malmö and Stockholm on invitation. We have been able to do these activities because of the partners we have met along the way that believed that it is also good for Sweden to have talented people- who were already here- contribute their education, training, and skills. And we have been able to do these activities because we had a growing group and a strong idea behind us. We were not afraid to say "Hello my name is- ".
WE ENCOURAGE ALL OF YOU TO NOT BE AFRAID TO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES. Stay active and attend seminars, meetings, and lectures that are of interest. And don´t forget professional organizations and social events. Go early and stay late and have business cards. Sign up for a course and get to know your classmates- and teachers. And of course: intern, consult, and volunteer. Use social media to research opportunities. Send a LinkedInmail or email to those people who may be willing to share their stories and insights. Ask for a meeting both with other members in SIT and with those "on the other side". Establishing yourself in Sweden is not just about getting a foot in the door, it is about establishing your own reputation and learning how to introduce yourself!
OUR PAST AND FUTURE ACTIVITIES ARE NOW LISTED ON OUR WEBSITE. Events, such as mingles, recruitment days, and upcoming seminars- as well as job postings are offered to SIT members in our LinkedIn group. SIT can help you in your journey to establish yourself.. so be sure to talk about (S)it, refer to (S)it, and use (S)it to your advantage!
