SVERIGES INTERNATIONELLA TALANGER (SIT) AS AN ORGANIZED GROUP OF EDUCATED.TALENTED.MOTIVATED. GLOBAL PROFESSIONALS IS NOW A YEAR OLD- AND WITH 850 MEMBERS. This means we have achieved a critical mass to be considered a "movement". Our goal has been to point to our group and tell businesses we are, in fact, easy to find and contact. With our recognized image and established digital presence, we have launched our Got Mångfald? communication campaign as a start.
OUR MESSAGE IS THAT TALENTED FOREIGNERS ARE ALREADY HERE, are already educated and experienced, and are willing to stay- they only need a chance to enter the labor market. Since we launched our community in April 2014, we have been saying that they are a resource and not a risk. The current political climate, marked by former Prime Minister Frederik Reinfeldt´s recent discussion in April 2015, marks a growing realization that Sweden would benefit from incorporating the global talent already within its borders: ”Det är inte en börda, en kostnad, utan de facto en väg till ett starkare och bättre samhälle”, he says.
OUR ORIGINAL PLAN IN LAUNCHING SIT WAS TO FIND WAYS TO INTRODUCE OUR MEMBERS TO THOSE ALREADY ESTABLISHED IN THE BUSINESS WORLD. Our members of course represent just a slice of the talent already here (and arriving daily) and we want to introduce them to those already working and in positions to help and hire. The SIT leadership has met with the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the City of Solna, and the American Chamber of Commerce and has several meetings planned with umbrella organizations such as Stockholm Business Region and Diversity Charter whose members and contacts are the very corporations that can "welcome" our members into the labor market- whether through jobs or internships. One can keep up to date with who we are meeting on our Facebook page here.
NOW, SIT HAS LAUNCHED A LEADERSHIP TEAM TO INVOLVE OUR MEMBERS AND GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO REACH OUT AND ATTRACT BUSINESSES TO SIT EVENTS. Our first meeting is on May 18 in Stockholm, and members can register to attend. Our goal is to bring corporations to our June member mingle. Our greater goal is to attract corporations to a panel discussion in October that will highlight the benefit of global talent and showcase a sample of our group´s international talent. Our activities have been in Stockholm, though our members are now from throughout Sweden. This is understandably due to resources.
WE CONTINUE CREATING OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN AND BE HEARD. Besides our awareness campaign and our assembling a Leadership Team to help promote SIT and bring companies to our events, we have been finding ways to help our members gain valuable information and contacts: through coaching, education, and mentorship. This week, on May 6th, we will hold an interview technique workshop for 20 members, and we will also meet with Sveriges Television to discuss a possible mentorship program for the fall. (We are brainstorming a series of workshops for the fall, as well.) We will also bring our members´stories in front of politicians and activists at Almadalen on July 1st and 2nd. Here, we will participate in an interactive panel discussion with Diversity Group.
